Doula Services

What is a doula?

The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek, meaning “a woman who serves.” Doulas have been assisting women during childbirth for centuries, across various cultures.

Doulas are Not Just for Mothers: While doulas are often associated with supporting pregnant women during childbirth, they also provide valuable support to partners and families, helping them understand the process and cope with the challenges of labor

Evidence-Based Care: Doulas provide evidence-based information and emotional support, helping mothers make informed decisions about their childbirth experience. They do not provide medical care but complement the care provided by healthcare professionals

Emotional Support: Doulas provide continuous emotional support, offering encouragement and reassurance to mothers and their partners throughout the entire labor and birth process.

Physical Support: Doulas do not provide medical care but they do offer evidence-based information on position changes to help labor progress. They can also provide support like massage for relaxation or counter pressure for back labor pains.

Why have a doula?

Scientific studies are showing when a doula is present at a birth the chances of a positive mental and physical outcome is higher.

In this study, continous support for women during childbirth, labors were shorter, women were less likely to have a cesarean birth or instrumental vaginal birth, regional analgesia, or a baby with a low five‐minute Apgar score. Women were also less likely to report negative ratings of or feelings about their childbirth experience!

Labor & Delivery Support

I will be there to support you through your labor and birth. Support starts when you and I agree that active labor has begun and my services are needed. I will stay with you through the delivery of your baby. Depending on how the journey unfolds, I usually stay up to two hours after the baby’s arrival.

This support contains no prenatal or postpartum visits. I come with a bag of supplies ready to help you attain your birthing desires and support your partner in supporting you.

These visits are within the first twelve weeks of giving birth.

A postpartum visit is a great time to revisit your birth story. We can talk through the events of your journey and how you feel about them. This helps you mentally process all the physical aspects of your journey to ensure those memories are positive.

These visits also give us time to talk about how being at home is going. We can go over local resources you might be interested in, like a Chiropractor, support groups, or a Lactation specialist.

After the initial visit, all other visits are 35 dollars per hour with a minimum of a 3-hour booking.
