I was BORN and RAISED in Grand Rapids. It’s the only place I have ever called home. Being comfortable in the “WHERE” was much easier than the “WHAT.”
If you had asked me as a child, “What do you want to be when you GROW UP” I wouldn’t have had an answer.
If you had asked me at 40, “What do you want to do as an ADULT,” I still wouldn’t have had an answer for you.
I was a MOM and a WIFE at 19. I just fell into the role and have been doing a GOOD JOB at it for the last 21 years.
I changed diapers, wiped noses, and got four little munchkins from SUN UP to SUNDOWN.
Then I BEGAN shuffling them to and from school, folding laundry, and making COUNTLESS meals to feed the growing munchkins.
Before I knew it, they were NO LONGER munchkins!
I started juggling teen relationships, riding in the passenger seat of my own car, and feeling the RUMBLE of the house when bedroom doors were slammed shut.
Young ADULT CHILDREN bring new joys and new worries. We grow in our relationship together as they learn to make their way WITHOUT ME.
As they begin to graduate and move out, I am finding MORE SPACE for new adventures in my life.
What will I do with MYSELF as they no longer need so much of me?
I am free to discover what God has for me NEXT, so When my husband said, Have you ever heard of a doula? You would be so good at it that you should check it out.
I did just that!!
I found a doula training that was taking place in Downtown GRAND RAPIDS! It couldn’t have been more convenient!
I am BLESSED that I have been rolling from one SEASON of life to the next. This next season is no different. God has placed a grand opportunity in front of me.
…and I am running full speed into the role of DOULA.
I KNEW beyond a shadow of a doubt after my training that a Doula is precisely what I wanted to be as a GROWN-UP 🙂
I LOVED every minute of that Grand Rapids training and can’t wait to keep LEARNING what being a doula has in store for me.
AND there is NOWHERE I would rather start my career than Grand Rapids. I was born here, grew up here, and raised my kids here!
AND Now I look forward to SERVING the women of the Grand Rapids area!
